Today is Friday, which means its check-in day. Our prompt is: What expectations and initial thoughts do you have? What interests you most about the Library of Congress? My reply is as follows:

I am very excited to begin this internship! I've lived most of my life in California, so visiting the Library of Congress, and DC in general has only occurred a few times. I feel so incredibly fortunate to have the opportunity to learn and possibly write a blog post for In Custodia Legis. My expectations revolve around absorbing as much information as possible and my personal expectation is to produce something that is worthy of publication. A small part of me wishes I could be there in person, however, practically speaking I wouldn't be able to complete this opportunity if that was the case.

I remember the first time I walked into the Library of Congress. I was mesmerized by the living history all around me. I definitely left with a bunch of souvenirs! The last time I was there was in 2017 when I was finishing up my law degree and I saw the Library through a different lens. I appreciated all the immense and powerful knowledge and I remember thinking just how much I would love to work there. So, to have an opportunity to intern here would really have impressed law school me! What interests me most is the vast collections of material in the Library. And I'm interested in the people that work there. What drew them there? Did they always want to work at the Library of Congress/DC? I have a small child now, so the lifestyle of just moving somewhere for a year or two is gone. But, I like to dream!

I also reviewed some suggested material on the legislative process to help me understand some of the federal statutes I will be looking at.
