Figure 1: Screenshot of Library of Congress's
Everybody needs to take a few minutes and spend some time perusing the maps that the Library of Congress has. I am constantly surprised at the treasures that the Library of Congress has, the many layers to peel back. It occurred to me earlier that there could (and should) be an entire academic course devoted to the contents of the Library- it is so much more than just the "library" of Congress. The study of maps, or cartography, is like a step back in time and a glimpse of yesterday's future. Here is the link: https://www.loc.gov/rr/geogmap/ It is well worth exploring.
After today's webinar on maps, I spent some time working through the website and digging into the different atlases and maps from all over the world. Curiosity sent me over to UNT's library website and I began exploring the depths offered there. There is also a link to the Library of Congress's maps page. I'm sure this is information lots of people already know, but for me it was like discovering a new world- its like going to a museum and looking at a slice of history- but from the comfort of my own home. Blog work will have to be another day!
