A screenshot of some of the collections I have perused while investigating topics.
Today was the weekly check-in with Jennifer. I am awaiting her feedback on my topic proposals before moving forward with them, plus I am still exploring other areas that could potentially turn into proposals. In addition to discussing my progress this week, I am interested in learning more about Jennifer's career moves and why she chose law librarianship. I'll update her response next week!
As part of my check-in, that was something that I was very aware of this week. I love brainstorming and playing around with ideas and I was coming up with all kinds of things to write about. (I am a huge fan of Stuff You Should Know- if I had any kind of decent sounding voice I would looooove to have my own random podcast!). But having the form in front of me was a nice reality check of flushing some of these ideas out. It's been a fun challenge, seeing what feels more viable than others, including some ideas that I thought would be easy. I've spent a lot more time removing potential topics than I anticipated.
This check-in is going to be shorter than the last one (a balance!). I am enjoying the research process and I am excited to see what I can come up with. It's become part of my nightly routine- I've always liked to read things like Britannica and JSTOR Daily but now I find myself bookmarking with an exploratory purpose. Who knows- maybe I will work on my voice skills and get that podcast going, or better yet, a website! No talking!
I was wondering what lead you to law librarianship? And to the Library of Congress? I also have my law degree but practicing was not for me- after working in advocacy I needed a break when I had my daughter. During the pandemic I discovered library science and law librarianship specifically. I wish I had discovered it earlier in my career, but I'm here now. I'm exploring career opportunities and just interested in how and why and what people do in this field.
