Copyright issues are everywhere!

Today's webinar is on the U.S. Copyright Office. I'm interested and intrigued about this subject because law school introduced me to a whole world of copyright issues that I took for granted most of my life. Product placement! Copyright infringement! It is absolutely everywhere. I feel like every first year law student plays that game where everything they watch or see becomes subject to critique. (Nobody is more critical or annoying than a first year law student, haha). As a person who is also involved in the cookie making field, I am constantly aware of bakers complaining about using trademarked logos and images, fearing cease and desist letters. Apparently Disney is renowned for sending out those letters to even the smallest of bakeries. It's a real thing. My daughter was watching a youtube video the other day and subject was baking a cake. Every ingredient's label was blacked out and I was brought back to my oneL days- aha! they're not allowed to use that brand! I chuckle to myself.

After the webinar is finished I peruse the website for awhile and enjoy reading the histories and anecdotal stories. At the end of the week our rough drafts are due to the mentors so I start putting together my "rough rough" draft so I have something of value to receive some advice on. I continue to read the daily blog posts to help me craft my own.
